Project Sokol comes to Arts N Boards

From War To Peace is the new exhibition being held at the Arts N Boards celebrating Project Sokol, which was something I was involved in back in 2009, commissioned by Galerie Richter & Masset. Myself and four other artists were asked to customise an old Russian War helicopter with the theme 'from war to peace'. This helicopter was then exhibited at the first Stroke Urban Art Fair and received worldwide recognition. Now the helicopter comes back home to Munich where the idea was first born. In what is being hailed as a celebration of urban art, street art and pop surrealism, the helicopter will stand in the restaurant grounds to be admired, whilst art from myself and other artists will adorn the walls. Be sure to come on the opening night of 10th February 2012 at 7pm, otherwise the exhibition runs until 10th March 2012.

Had a fantastic opening to my solo show at the Chapter 1 Gallery in Kitzbühel this weekend. Thankyou to everyone who showed up and made it a very special evening indeed. It was a pleasure to hear so much positive feedback from my work, drink champagne all evening and listen to the music of Christoph Steinbach. Watch out for a feature on Kitz TV coming up in the next week its sure to be a treat. I showcased a number of new artworks so also stay tuned for those as well!

Papergirl SF is an annual mail-art and delivery systems art project that collects artwork from all over the world and, in the style of American paperboys, distributes the art freely by bicycle to people in the streets of San Francisco. Dudes Factory Lab

A unique concept of the Dudes Factory is the Dudes Lab. The laboratory acts as a creative platform and tool which allows users to de-construct artwork and apply onto t-shirts. For this I created a selection of drawings, artworks and seperate elements together with a font which allows the user to create their very own Casiegraphics t-shirt. De-constructing art and design is taken to the next level.

Arts ´N`Boards is a fab new concept from Uli Richter, Selena Fletcher and Natalia Wagner.

What is Arts 'n' Boards?

A place where everything happens not just food and drink! Whether it is film or TV entertainment, small music performances or exhibitions.

This is the combination of the two great passions of the owner (art and surfing)which will offer exciting entertainment and varied daytime and evening programs.

Why Arts?

Uli Richter is now for 20 years the proud owner of Galerie Richter & Masset, which focuses on pop surrealism and urban art. Uli decided to combine his gallery with a cafe and move to Schwabing so now the artworks from the Gallery will be exhibited on the walls of Arts 'n' Boards.

Why boards?

In addition to his great interest in art Uli Richter discovered his passion for surfing early in life and opened the first German surf school in Europe known as "Uli's Surf School". He also wrote a book entitled "surfing".

Medium Vinyl Opening Night

The much publicized Meddium Vinyl Exhibition had its opening the other night at the Hardware and Plump Galleries. If you happened to be in Sydney then you may have already seen the fantastic exhibit filled with wonderful vinyls from artists all over the world and myself of course!

If however you are like me and didn't manage to make it to the exhibit which continues on till 11th June then I have posted some photos below.

If I had not been busy woking away in Berlin then I would have done everything to try and make it along. Perhaps next year!

It looked like a fantastic evening and well done to everyone involved!

Medium: Vinyl Timeout Sydney

Medium: Vinyl is just three days away....the countdown begins! Everyone is excited including Timeout Sydney who featured the exhibit today

Here is what they had to say:

"Lew Palaitis, music junkie and owner of Hardware Gallery, has a "scaled back" collection of "a few thousand" records and more than double that amount on sale in his gallery's record room. He loves listening to vinyl - and not just for its warmer, superior sound. "It's the interaction required with the music," he explains. "Changing a record, whether you are mixing music or just swapping over a finished track, makes you hear more. You notice a lot more when you're interacting on a physical level. More so than just hitting shuffle and zoning out."

Palaitis is all about encouraging interaction with vinyl. He's the man behind Medium: Vinyl, Hardware Gallery's full-blown, annual celebration of vinyl-inspired and vinyl-based art.

The show began life two years ago as a once-off promotional event in which artists painted directly onto records. By Palaitis's own account, it was a convenient way for him to liberate all the crap records he'd "accidentally" collected. Two years later, in addition to the inevitable selection of round paintings, Medium: Vinyl showcases stencils, etchings, printmaking, photography and sculpture from a whopping 200+ artists.

"One artist has transformed his record into a commemorative plate featuring broadcaster Alan Jones," Palaitis says. "Another has been transformed into a weird lunar surface with tiny people having sex. Several of the artworks spin on the wall in a kinetic homage to turntables."

There's just something about vinyl, Palaitis says, that attracts a wide range of creatives from every branch of the visual arts. "They like the challenge that the show presents - something that pushes them out of their comfort zone and forces them to try something new. Some artists simply revel in the chance to create within a round context; others create works that conceptually interact with the music or surface of a record. There is something wonderfully taboo about cutting into or scratching the surface of a vinyl record."

Vinyl sales account for not even one per cent of new music sales today - but Palaitis insists that, in every other sense that matters, vinyl is back. "Collectors and audiophiles will always hunt and keep their vinyl," he says, "and industry analysts have now pointed to a much younger fan base. It was always made for quality listening at home or with other people. It's found its niche in fans of quality sound and fantastic art." And, thanks to projects like Medium: Vinyl, it's inspiring a new generation of artists in exciting and unexpected ways."

So I have already told you about the Medium:Vinyl Exhibition going on in Sydney in May which is receiving much press attention. This morning I found an article on the Vivid Creative Sydney site advertising the exhibit using my vinyl!!

Here is what they had to say:

"Medium: Vinyl is an annual celebration of art and the vinyl record. The 2011 exhibition will display across two galleries: Hardware Gallery and Plump Gallery both on Enmore Road, Enmore.

Up to 200 artists have been invited to make an artwork on a vinyl record in any medium they choose including painting, sculpture, printmaking, stencilling, photography and more. Now in its third year, Medium: Vinyl always delivers the unexpected, creative and musical in one giant exhibition.

Entries have been received from every state in Australia, Europe, USA and even The Middle East as well as a healthy selection from Sydney and in particular, the Inner West.

The work on show ranges from the conceptual to more traditional approaches of artists painting into a round context. As always there are many musically inspired works and many artworks where artists have interacted with the record. Several of the works are kinetic, and will literally spin on the wall.

The range of ages and styles among the participating artists is testament to the enduring popularity of vinyl records and vinyl culture. Once again this year, Medium: Vinyl has attracted entries from several generations and both emerging and established artists."

Stroke Urban Art Fair

I will be exhibiting at the Stroke Urban Art Fair In Munich with Galerie Richter & Masset from 26-29 May. So excited this will be my third exhibition with the Stroke! So if you are heading along come by and see our gallery with pieces from Beastiestylez and I Are Ugly too.

Well! What can I say? I had a fab time at the Eggsibition opening over at the Dudes Factory. The evening was filled with some of my very favourite things - laughter, live-painting, beer and a very tasty barbeque!. Die zwei Münchner Künstler I ARE UGLY und BEASTIESTYLEZ sind

Comicfans der ersten Stunde. Beide entwickelten jeweils, über Jahre

hinweg, einzigartige Figuren. Nun haben sie sich zusammen getan und

wollen mit einer gemeinsamen Ausstellung der Comicwelt ihren Tribut

zollen. Inspiriert von dem Thema „MARTIALarts“ interpretierten

sie ihre persönlichen Comichelden, sowie –schurken und

präsentieren ihre Werke vom 4. bis 27.Februar 2011,

im Farbenladen / Feierwerk, Hansastr.31, 81373 München

I was invited to cusomize a cake for Cafe Kubitscheck at the Stroke 02. I did two Cakes with my buddies Beastiestyles and I ARE UGLY. It was so much fun, we couldn't wait to stop customising so we could start eating!!!! Whilst I was making the finishing touches to the first cake a lovely gentleman decided to buy the it so the next day I made another, this time with cream cheese filling - yum yum
